Concert - 7:30 PM

Let Nova Singers warm your heart and soul with an evening of sacred a cappella music that spans four centuries.  Peace can be found in the simple perfection of 17th century melodies by Gibbons, Tallis, Weelkes and Purcell, hopeful thanks in the fun and spirited early American tunes by William Billings.  British composer John Rutter is one of the most popular and widely performed composers of his generation.  Known for his sweetly melodic church anthems and Christmas carols, Rutter has also written Gloria, Requiem, and the exquisitely beautiful Hymn to the Creator of Light.  This moving work, scored for double-choir a cappella, is a prayer of gratitude and serenity.  Familiar American folk hymns We Gather Together and What Wondrous Love is This, join the stirring and uplifting rhythms of African-American spirituals by Moses Hogan to close the concert with joy.  Bring friends and family to share in the warmth!!

Nova Singers is pleased to be joined by local high school singers for our annual Project Sing! performances.  Our high school choral guest for 2009 is the Dunlap High School Choir under the direction of Jen Reece.  Eight selected students will sing with Nova Singers for two songs near the middle of the concert, and the Dunlap HS Choir will sing a few selections on their own in Galesburg.

As part of the year-long Lincoln celebrations, the Orpheum Theatre proudly presents "Our American Cousin".  This farcical comedy gained notoriety as the last play Lincoln ever saw when he was assassinated half-way through the play's third act at the Ford Theatre in Washington, D.C.  The play contains important cultural undertones as its plot is based on the introduction of an awkward, boorish American to his aristocratic English relatives.  This show is a co-production effort between the Orpheum Theatre and Monmouth College Theatre Department.
