The Galesburg Community Chorus guest concert featuring a return visit by the Millikin University Choir to delight audiences with their beautiful sound, impeccable muscianship and diverse programming.  It will be directed by nationally known conductor Dr. Brad Holmes, who has impressed audiences worldwide.  Guaranteed to be an inspirational experience.

Gordon Behrents Senior Center annual Fundraiser.  The Doug Gabriel Show is all about family entertainment.  Doug has been voted entertainer of the year, instrumentalist of the year and Male Vocalist of the year seven times.  Doug Gabriel has been performing in Branson for 23 years and most currently in his own production show which is in its 15th year.  Doug is a multi-talented entertainer, not only does he produce and direct his own show he is an accomplished songwriter, plays the guitar, the piano, the "Mufftar" and sings.  Completing the cast is Doug's wife of 25 years Cheryl who sings classcs by Patsy Cline, Anne Murray and Karen Carpenter, son Joshua has been playing drums since age 2, Jordan does a lot of the comedy for the show and Jasmine will steal your heart as she sings and dances.  A variety of music from Country to Gospel to Pop to Broadway, the Doug Gabriel Show has it all.  Tickets are available by calling 1-800-280-9757 or at the door the night of the concert.  All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Gordon Behrents Senior Center.  See you at the Show!!!

The Galesburg Symphony Society will present its 9th annual Casino Night Gala & Silent Auction at its new location in Galesburg at the Soangetaha Country Club.  The Gala, which has become a popular social event, is the only fundraiser to benefit the award-winning Knox-Galesburg Symphony.  Each casino game is sponsored by an area business or professional.  The Gala features "official" casino games including craps, Texas Hold'em & Black Jack, an array of silent auction items to bid on, a 50/50 drawing and a cash bar.  From 7:00 - 9:00 PM delicious hot & cold hors d'oeuvres including roast beef & ham along with an International themed wine tasting have been added for 2010, plus patrons can kick up their heels to the Bob Clark Combo throughout the evening.  The silent auction will offer over 200 items from area businesses, casinos and organizations.  Items to be auctioned will consist of a wide spectrum of merchandise & services including casino packages, memorabilia, collectibles, jewelry, specialty items, auto services, household merchandise, apparel, landscaping, memberships, restaurant meals, sports activities, gift certificates and gift baskets to name a few.  Tickets at $25 include admission to the casino and auction, food, ten dollars ($10) in gambling chips & the entertainment.  For those looking for a unique gift idea, tickets are available now at Innkeepers, 80 N. The Young Professionals of Galesburg are having a First Friday to Benefit Haiti Relief!! The Y.P.G. will be selling Walking Tacos, there will be door prizes, a drawing for 5 pairs of tickets to the Chris Beard Show on February 7th, 50/50 drawing.  ALL proceeds will go to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.  Come out, have fun and help the people of Haiti.

The Galesburg Civic Art Center is proud to persent an exhibition by local photographer Tom Foley, entitled Helena and Hopson.  An opening reception will take place on Friday, February 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, the reception is free and open to the public and the artist will be present.  Tom will be giving a gallery talk on Thursday, February 18th at 7:00 PM in the Art Center gallery, the talk is titled "Where is Helena and What is Hopson?",  it will shed light on Tom's new work.  The public is invited to attend and the exhibition is free. 

The Galesburg Civic Art Center's retail store One12 will feature the work of local potter Christine Dokolasa in the month of February.  Mrs. Dokloasa will be present at One12 on Friday, February 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM to showcase her work and answer questions.  Christine Dokolasa is a Galesburg native who has found a love for creating beautiful platters and bowls with clay.  Of working with clay, Christine says: "I love working with clay.  It is such a versatile media.  Not only does it allow me to work with three-dimensional form, but I can also attend to the clay surface in many different ways.  My possibilities are endless."

The Knox-Galesburg Symphony Trio featuring David Suda on violin, Carolyn Suda on cello and Bruce Polay on piano.  They will be performing Robert Schumann's Second Piano Trio.

Presentation by Living Lands & Water founder Chad Pregracke.  Pregracke is the founder of America's only "industrial strength" river clean-up organization.  Living Lands & Water, a not-for-profit organization based in East Moline is dedicated to cleaning up and preserving the nation's rivers.  Since the project's inception in 1998, Chad, his crew & over 60,000 volunteers have collected over Six Million pounds of debris from the nation's greatest rivers. During his presentation "Helping to Clean America's Rivers," Pregracke tells a compelling and funny story about growing up on the river and how his river experiences led to his unique vision to clean up the Mississippi River.  This event is free and open to the public.

Judy Koon, visiting professor of art at Knox College will give a talk about her landscape paintings.  Koon's works have been exhibited in New York, Chicago & Portland, Oregon.  The exhibit features Koon's landscape paintings of Umbria, Italy & the Hudson Valley of New York.  She creates "a sense of flux and fleeting beauty, as well as a feeling of immersion in the elemental vitality of the natural world," writes Keven Wixted of the Lohin Geduld Gallery.  The exhibit will be on display through February 12 in the gallery immediately outside the lecture site in the Round Room.  The lecture is FREE and open to the public.

The Juanito Pascual Trio will perform a concert of flamenco music at 7 PM.  Pascual will lead a hands-on workshop in flamenco at 4 PM.  Dance scholar Michelle Heffner Hayes will give a talk "Somos Anti-Guapas: Against Beauty in Contemporary Flamenco" at 5 PM.  Her talk will examine the gender dynamics of contemporary flamenco and women dancers who question their own gendered positions within the dance.   All events are FREE and open to the public.

The Galesburg Historical Society presents their annual Chocolate Festival featuring homemade and commercially made chocolate treats.  It is an endless buffet of tortes, trifles, cheesecake, brownies, fudge, cookies, cakes, pies, candies, chocolate punch and much more all with the main ingredient of CHOCOLATE!!   Definately a chocolate lover's dream.  Chocolate art contest, games, prizes, live entertainment, fun for the entire family.  Being held on the third floor of the Galesburg Antiques Mall, please use the elevator.  There will be a Chocolate Fountain!!

The Maple City Antique Tractor Association's 10th Annual Tractor Show.  Bring the family and celebrate the 10th Anniversary of a community favorite event.  A variety of tractors will be rolling into Sandburg Mall.  There are typically 80 - 90 tractors on display.  This year's featured tractor is the Massey Ferguson.  Nationally known painter Charles Freitag will be set-up in center court painting and selling pictures that depict American farm life.  Reinertson's Embroidery will once again have a kiosk set-up in Kmart Court selling a wide variety of tractor design sweatshirts and t-shirts.  Children will have an opportunity to jump in the Jorge of the Jungle Bounce House in Center Court Saturday from 11:00 am - 3:00 PM.  There will be a FREE concert by Missy Vail on Sunday, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM in center court.  Bring the whole family and enjoy the day.

Treat your Valentine to a special night of great comedy!!!  Tim Wilson is a regular on the Bob & Tom show as well as the Bob & Tom All Star theater tour.  As a recording artist for Capital records Tim has released 8 CD's and had numerous hit records including "First Baptist Bar and Grill" and many others.  Tim has appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CMT, Grace Under Fire, A and E, and has opened for many acts in Vegas and Atlantic City.  He has appeared at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.

The Nova Singers present Morning Light and Evening Rest, a program of contrasts, from the dark anguish and radiant joy of Brahms' Warum ist das Licht gegeben, to the richness of Lauridsen's Nocturnes and the beauty of folk songs.  This program will also be performed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA on Sunday, February 21 at 4:00 PM.

"The Saxophone,"  FREE Knox-Galesburg Symphony (KGS) concert preview for preschool through 5th grade children.  It will be presented by Russell Peterson, KGS alto saxaphone soloist.  The program is co-sponsored by the KGS & Friends of the Galesburg Public Library in cooperation with Galesburg School District 205 and is open to the public.

Second in the Carl Sandburg College Concert Series.  The Steve Duke Trio brings together the talents of saxophonist Steve Duke, pianist Kelly Brand and bassist Kelly Sill to form a unique collaboration in jazz.  The trio performs standard and original works and has a sophisticated rhythmic and lyrical style.  The members of the Steve Duke Trio are among the top solo artists in the country and have performed and recorded with jazz luminaries such as Ella Fitzgerald, Joe Williams, Joe Henderson and Stan Getz.

'Saving America's Treasures' Week'  We need to raise awareness about proposed funding cuts to historic preservation programs by scheduling a public photo day.  However we need your help, the request is simple, we will take a picture.  Gather at the Carl Sandburg Historic Site on Friday, April 9th at 5:30 PM.  Lets make this group picture HUGE let our legislatures know how important the Sandburg site is to the town and all of the people in it.  If it is raining - bring an umbrella.

Merging into the Future 10 - Biennial High School Exhibition!!!  From April 16th through May 1st, Galesburg High School advanced art students will have their work on display at the Galesburg Civic Art Center.  This much anticipated show includes, oil, pastel, drawing, watercolor, pencil, computer art, ceramics and sculpture.  A free and public reception is planned at the Art Center on Friday, April 16th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.

Jazz Brunch with Semenya McCord - United Way Fundraiser!!!  Swing Into Spring with a brunch and marvelous entertainment by Semenya McCord, a silent auction and much more.  All proceeds will go to the United Way endowment, some of the auction items are; weekend getaways for families, tickets and passes to summer fun activities for children, planting, gardening, lawn care, BBQ stuff, golf lessons, a hunting excursion.  Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 for children, they can be purchased at Hy-Vee on E. The Western Illinois Regional Council-Community Action Agency (WIRA-CAA) Victim Service's Clothesline Project will be on display at Carl Sandburg College north of the E building.  In the event of rain, the display will be located in the lower E building corridor.  The Clothesline Project is one of 500 national and international displays to be exhibited in an effort to recognize violence against women.  The Project has grown from a local grassroots effort into a national campaign.   The display is comprised of shirts created by survivors served by the program & members of area college campus communities.  By hanging a shirt on the line, survivors, friends and family bear witness to the violence.  It also allows those who are suffering in silence to understand that they are not alone.  The shirts included in the display are color coded to represent the form of abuse and if the victim survived the abouse they experienced.  White represents women who have died because of violence; yellow or beige represents battered or assulted women; red, pink & orange are for survivors of incest & sexual abuse; purple or lavender represents those attacked because of sexual orientation; and black is for women attacked for political reasons.

KCAHCE presents their annual Spring Fling 2010!!  This is the 7th Annual presentation of this show.  Plant sale, craft sale, gardening tips.  Crafters from around the county will display and sell their wares.  A soup and sandwich linch will be served from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm for your convenience.

The Carl Sandburg College Automotive Club will host the 8th Annual Cruise-In.  All years of automobiles, trucks and motorcycles are welcome.  The Cruise-In will feature demonstrations on engine dynamometers, cylinder head flow benches, chassis dynamometers, color sanding & buffing and a spray gun demonstration with audience participation.  Vendors will be set up in the automotive shop and the first 100 cars will receive dash plaques.  A food stand sponsored by CSC Automotive Club and music by Intermix Audio will be on site.

Annually the Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae and Historical Committee hosts the Mother Bickerdyke Convocation on the Saturday of National Nurses Week May 6 - 12.  Anyone who is a nurse or anyone who want to honor a nurse can join us as we gather around the Mother Bickerdyke Memorial Statue on the lawn of the Knox County Courthouse.

Summer Concert in the Maquon Village Park!!   Come for an evening of food and fun!! V.I.P. RAIL YARD TOURS!!!!  For the first time the Railroad Museum will offer VIP tours of the Rail yard, there will only be 32 tickets sold and these will be on a first-come first-served basis, no pre-sales.  The tour will consist of a 30 minute guided tour of the Galesburg Railroad Hump Tower, then proceed for an overview of the railroad yard on County Highway 10 bridge, after a few minutes it will head to the Galesburg Diesel Shop facilities for a 30 minute narrated walking tour inside the building, then will finish the tour with the rest of the Yard.  Total time of the tour is approximately one hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours.  Be back to the Museum approximately 6:00 PM.

Railroad Days Train & Toy Show!!!  Carl Sandburg College Foundation will host the 16th annual train and toy show.  There are 70 vendors from 14 states slated to attend this event with over 270 merchandise tables & several model layouts for people to view.  Visitors to the toy show will get a chance to see model cars, NASCAR memorabilia and other toys while walking through the event.  A new exhibitor at this year's show, Rails of Fun, will offer miniature train rides for children in the circle drive for a nominal cost.

Galesburg Woman's Club - Historical Homes Tour!!!  In conjunction with Galesburg Railroad Days the Galesburg Woman's Club presents their Historical Home Tour, the tour begins and ends at the Galesburg Woman's Club House.  Strawberry shortcake and beverages will be served at the end of your tour.  Homes on the tour will be: The Bert Mackey Home - built in 1889, The Kathy Kopsack Home - built in the 1890's, The John Schlaf House (Kelsey House) - completed in 1902, The Galesburg Woman's Club House - built in 1876.  Come tour these lovely historic homes and enjoy shortcake afterwards.

"Forgotten Tales Along the Rails"!!!  Margaret Spiegel will present this lecture as part of the 2010 Carl Sandburg Historic Site Lecture Series.  The Irish Immigrant Experience in Galesburg, 1850 - 1970 will explain unique demographic trends of Irish immigration, featuring the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy's Railroad's recruitment of unskilled laborers, the role of women and religion.  Ms. Spiegel is a recent graduate of Knox College and the topic was part of her Honor's in History studies.  The presentation is FREE and open to the public.

Bishop Hill's Midsommar Music Festival!!!  This festival has a strong line-up of musical performers including; Ernie Sandquist, Chris Vallillo, Mark Dvorak, Morningstar, Black Hawk Pipes & Drums, The Templeton Family, Pickin' Pals, the Heritage Folk Dancers of Bishop Hill and Hammer & Pick.  Highlights of this FREE all-day event include Main Stage performances, Music Workshops, Open jamming, a Swedish Maypole celebration and Old-Fashioned Barn Dance at the Colony School in the evening.  Several musicians will offer music workshops in which visitors can hone their musical skills, learn new tunes and ideas, or just listen and enjoy.  Bring your instruments for some excellent free musical jamming sessions, located throughout Bishop Hill.  Visitors can pick up a program for more details at the information booth in the park.

Camo Quilt Project Display!!!  On display at the Library the whole month of July.  Come in and see this display of digital camouflage fabric which is cut and sewn into a lightweight quilt for soldiers deployed to the Middle East.  Since 2006, 3800 CAMO Quilts have been made.  The display is at the front entrance to the Library.

WYATT EARP'S "OLDE WEST" DAY!!!!  Corral yourself a good time at Wyatt Earp's Birthplace, Historic House Museum on Saturday, July 31.  From Noon - 4:00 PM there will be BBQ sandwiches, buggy rides, open house, kids' fun (horseshoes, roping wooden horses, farm animals, storytelling, face painting), western costume prizes, authentic historic O.K. Corral and auctions.  MRHS singers will perform at 1:30 PM.  The Annual Historic 1881 O. K. Corral re-enactments are from 2:00 - 3:00 PM next door in the corner corral.  The Shady Creek Shootists will perform the authentic showdown, which helped the lawman Wyatt Earp and his brothers Virgil and Morgan along with Doc Holliday clean out the outlaw cowboys in Tombstone, Arizona Territory.  Some seating will be provided, but visitors may bring blankets and chairs.

"Night and Day" Big Band Show to Benefit the National Stearman Fly-In!!  A classic big band show featuring the Prairieland All-Star Big Band under the direction of Dean Petrie and a host of guest singers.  This classic show features a 16-piece big band playing music by great American composers like Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Benny Goodman and Glen Miller.  Some of the memorable songs to be performed are Night and Day, The Way You Look Tonight, How High The Moon, Blue Moon, Blue Skies and Come Rain or Shine.  A special feature of the show will be a memorial tribute to Jack Larson who did so much to promote big band music in Galesburg and the region.

Illinois Patriot Guard Proundly Presents The 2010 - GATHERING OF THE GUARD!!!!  A weekend to honor all veterans, past and present and to make people aware of all the services the Patriot Guard has available for Veternas and their families.  Saturday at dusk will be a Flag retirement ceremony, if anyone has flags that need disposed of we will do them, please bring them out any time Friday or Saturday!!  Tributes to Illinois fallen heros, Military displays, Live Music on Friday night by: Matt Poss and the Rolling Thunder Band, they toured Iraq and Afganistan last year playing for our troops.  A rememberance garden with pictures of every fallen soldier in Illinois surrounded  by flags, games for kids, car and bike show, vendors, dunk tank, civil war reenactment and much more.  Bring your family and come out to honor our veterans!!!

Fund Raiser for the Jack Larson Band Instruments for District 205 Students!!!!   Come enjoy the wonderful music by the Rootabaga Jammers and dance your feet off.  This is a fund raiser for the Jack Larson band instruments for District 205 students.  This is one of the many things Jack Larson was passionate about and this is your opportunity to help continue his legacy.

Annual regatta, held at Lake Storey Recreational Area, features competition among a wide variety of cardboard boats created to be attractive and unique as well as "seaworthy."  Fun and entertainment for the entire family!! 

The Galesburg Public Schools Foundation's Annual Duck Race has become an "end of summer rite" as hundreds of adults & children gather at Lake Storey each September to watch the cardboard boat regatta and then cheer on their winning duck.  The Duck Race usually starts around 3:00 PM.  Rain or shine - we are racing!!  Parking is free, souvenirs & food will be available.  For more information on the duck race call 309-342-9229

THE WORLD-FAMOUS GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA!!!   They're BACK!!  The Glenn Miller Orchestra last appeared at the Orpheum Theatre in August 2006 for a sold out show.  Not long before Glenn Miller's plane crashed in the English Channel, the popular bandleader had nosed-out Tommy Dorsey as the "Best Sweet Band" in the Downbeat poll.  Miller's recordings of In The Mood, Chattanooga Choo Choo, A String of Pearls, Moonlight Serenade, & Tuxedo Junction were all major hit records.  The Miller Estate formed the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956 which has toured constantly since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year.  Get your tickets now to ensure a good seat as they're sure to sell-out again!!

"Elvis Gospel Tribute Experience Concert"!!   As most people know Elvis grew up singing Gospel.  This concert features Al Hull, Elvis impressionist, singing and playing Elvis's favorite Gospel songs.  Elvis received three Emmy awards, all for his Gospel music.  Doors open at 2:30 with the concert starting at 4:00 PM.
